Nanospectra Biosciences, Inc. was formed in September 2001 to commercialize the life science applications of Nanoshells, a new class of materials. Nanoshells were invented by Naomi Halas, PhD and others at Rice University in the latter half of the 1990s. Jennifer West, Ph.D., Associate Professor of Bioengineering, Rice University, co-developed the medical applications of Nanoshells that led to the formation of our Company. We have an exclusive, world-wide license to the life science applications of Nanoshells. We have an extensive collaboration with researchers at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas for the development of oncology applications using Nanoshells.
