Prior to WCB, Dr. Backer served as Vice President, Technical Development with PDL BioPharma from 2001 to 2005. He was also founding Chairman and currently serves as a Director of Molecular Medicine BioServices, a contract development and manufacturing firm focused on viral-based vaccines and therapies. Prior to PDL, Dr. Backer held development and operations positions of increasing responsibility with Aviron (now MedImmune Vaccines), Systemix, IDEC Pharmaceuticals, and Eli Lilly. Dr. Backer’s industry experience began in 1978, when he was the seventh employee of Genentech and initiated its pilot manufacturing operations. ( www.westcoastbiologicals.com )
